Shared Garden Program for Schools
Since 2012, Valley Verde’s Shared Garden Program for Schools has helped students learn to grow culturally preferred organic vegetables. Title 1 schools participate for free! Along with its sister Shared Garden Program for Individuals, the two provide children and adults a “shared” gardening experience!

Are you a teacher interested in your students learning how to garden?
The Shared Garden Program for School provides:
-
Gardening education material
-
One or more garden beds (based on number of participating teachers)
-
Gardening supplies (compost, drip irrigation, soil, and seedlings)
-
Garden visits and individualized guidance
How the Program Works
Program Begins: January
Materials Distribution:
Garden Beds - March
Seeds and Seedlings - April
Program Concludes: May/June
The educational material includes lessons on composting, water-saving irrigation methods, drought-tolerant plants, approaches to avoiding chemical pesticides and herbicides, and more. In addition to gardening basics, students learn about nutrition, ecological principles, and environmental sustainability.
