Full-size organic variety compared to Rubicon, Bilko is slightly bigger at 12", darker green, and a couple of days later. Wide adaptability slow-bolting heads have a good, mild, sweet flavor.
Disease Resistance.
Cabbage -Hybrid Chinese Cabbage - Bilko F1
Planting: plant seedlings 12"-18" apart in full sun, in well-draining soil, rich in nutrients, as cabbages are heavy feeders (amend with compost and/or worm castings prior to planting). Enjoys a soil pH range from 6.5 to 7.0, but tolerates a slightly higher or lower pH well.
Watering: Water regularly but avoid getting leaves wet when watering. Keep soil consistently moist as drought causes the cabbage to bolt.
Harvesting: when heads feel firm and dense all the way through, and give a tiny bit when squeezed, cabbage is ready to harvest. Using a sharp knife cut cabbage at base of stem, and remove any damaged leaves before storage.
